Description
πΎ Hulled Sesame Seeds β Detailed Overview
1. Introduction
Hulled sesame seeds are the dehulled (outer coat removed) form of natural white sesame seeds. The hulling process enhances the seedβs appearance, texture, taste, and digestibility, making it more suitable for human consumption and food processing industries. These seeds are widely used in bakery, confectionery, health foods, and oil extraction.
2. Processing of Hulled Sesame Seeds
Step-by-Step Process:
Cleaning:
Raw sesame seeds are cleaned using a combination of sieves, aspirators, and destoners to remove dust, stones, sand, and other impurities.
Soaking:
The cleaned seeds are soaked in water (sometimes with mild alkali) to loosen the outer husk.
Dehulling:
The outer hull (bran) is mechanically removed using hulling machines. In some processes, seeds are rubbed or lightly ground to separate the hull.
Separation:
The hull and kernels are separated using specific gravity separators or washing tanks.
Drying:
The hulled seeds are dried to reduce the moisture content (typically to 5β6%) to maintain quality and shelf life.
Color Sorting & Grading:
Seeds are sorted using color sorters to remove discolored or damaged kernels.
Packaging:
The finished hulled seeds are packed in polypropylene (PP) or paper bags (25β50 kg), ready for domestic and export markets.
